Fishing

Some of the worlds best fishing.

The Ft. Pierce inlet is one of only five inlets connecting the Indian River Lagoon to the Ocean. There are more than 30 fishing tournaments feld here each year.  The ocean waters off of Ft. Pierce are known as "Sailfish Alley".  Billfishing is one of the biggest draws for fishermen froom all over the state.  There are plenty of chartered boats avaliable for deep-sea and sport fishing.

The Ft. Pierce City Marina, has 220+ boat slips, floating and fixed docks.  It is unique in that it is only Marina that is located in down town Ft. Pierce.  At least a dozen restaurants are located within a block radius of the marina.  The marina offers overnight and long term dockage.

Two of the big fishing tournaments each year are the Pelican Yacht Club's invitational billfish tournament, and the Exchange Club of Indian River County which holds an annual bluewater open tournament.  Most of Ft. Pierce tournaments are open to anyone, and quite a few are for junior anglers.  Almost all of the billfish tournaments are tag-and-release, by unwritten law among the fishermen.
